My Dad Fred

My sweet Dad, his name is Fred,
Young at ninety one
Life of the party without any drugs,
Has a knack for clean good fun
He could shoot a squirrel supper
With a twenty two short
Pulled me on my sled
Listened when mom read a bible story
Every night at the foot of the bed
My Dad Fred, My Dad Fred, Example for us all
Said, if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say nothing at all
He could dance goin’ backwards on roller skates
Never heard him cuss. Know in heaven he’ll have a corner lot,
Maybe next to Elvis
Traveling sales, that was his game
They loved him in Killeen
Advertising to Ft. Hood troops across the silver screen
He’d drive 6 hours just to watch me play baseball at the park
Said, the key to a long full life, always be home by dark
My Dad Fred, My Dad Fred
Such pleasant memories.
Watching Jackey Gleason Saturday nights
On a black and white T.V.
He could dance rolling backwards on roller skates
Never heard him cuss
Know in heaven he’ll have a corner lot
Maybe next to Elvis.
My sweet Dad, his name is Fred
Sculpted silver hair
Drove a million miles. Never got hurt
Started every trip with a prayer
Didn’t complain about an unjust ticket when we went through Arizona
Passed heart surgery so he could watch Texas play Oklahoma!
My Dad Fred, my Dad Fred, gave me good advice
Said no matter how poor you are, it don’t cost more to be nice
He could dance rolling backwards on roller skates. Never heard him cuss
Know in heaven he’ll have a corner lot, Maybe next to Elvis
My sweet Dad, his name was Fred
